Preparing for Our First Organizing Day
You can do a few simple things to make our first session successful.
Get Your Supplies Ready
Contractor or Trash Bags: Please have a good supply of them on hand. Purchase at your local hardware store or from the cleaning supplies section.
Save boxes and bags for a few weeks: If we will be doing books or komono, please try to save cardboard boxes and plastic grocery bags for several weeks in advance so that we can re-use them for packing heavier books and fragile items for donation.
Special recycling programs: if you prefer to buy specialty recycling boxes such as Terracycle.com or Trashie.io please purchase them ahead of time so that they are ready the day of our session.

Get Yourself Ready
2
Eat a nice big breakfast: We will be working hard for 3-6 hours, with short breaks as needed, so make sure that you have the energy that you’ll need.
Imagine your ideal lifestyle: Your vision of your ideal lifestyle is what will keep your motivation up as we tidy. Take time to write down and/or create an inspiration board that can be hung up and referred to anytime you need a reminder.
Reduce potential distractions: Figuring out what “sparks joy” takes a lot of focus. Make sure that you have a clear window during our scheduled time block without phone calls, interruptions, etc. so that we can make the most of your time.
Set aside your unmentionables: If there are items that are particularly delicate or private, feel free to set them aside in a private place.
Gather your clothing: Typically, our first category will be clothing. For a sneak peek at the process we will use, you can refer to the FAQs page or your online portal.
Online Session Prep
Test your systems: Before the day of our meeting, please take a few minutes to test that the meeting links and the video and audio settings work properly.
Be mobile: please be aware that online sessions require use of a portable device, so you will need to use a phone, tablet, or laptop instead of solely relying on a stationary desktop computer.

What Not To Do
4
Buy storage bins: contrary to popular belief, buying storage bins is not the first step to getting organized. As we tidy up your space and discard the things that no longer serve your ideal lifestyle, oftentimes we discover you already have enough supplies on hand.
No need to clean up! It is helpful for me to see your space in its “natural state” so that you can really help me see what’s working and what’s not. Please do not stress yourself out and prepare a version of your home that is not your real life. I am here to create a judgement free zone where we will collaborate on your tidying and learning.
