excuses excuses (are totally ok!!)
Hey friend.
How’s your week going? I’ve knocked out a few milestones lately. Last week I got the new school year off on the right foot with a bit a uniform organization, posters of the uniform schedules, and all the school events entered into my calendar. You?
Anyway…what I really want to talk about today are some of the things that commonly come up for busy parents who crave smoother mornings and less stressed when launching the family everyday.
I’m wondering which one you relate to most?
Do you have trouble remembering to do all the tasks?
Regarding my kids’ school-related stuff, the following scene often played out…
Have I ever jolted back awake because the impact of my head hitting the pillow caused me to remember that special event, tomorrow? Then have I disrupted my precious sleep to check the hamper only to realize, yes, I have to wash something RIGHT NOW? In a mad rush, have I put the clothes in the washer overnight, sleep fitfully, wake up, move the clothes, set the dryer on high, and pray it dries fast enough to get in car line on time? 🤦🏻♀️
OMG… that was so me when my kids started elementary school. They had uniforms and special events with special clothes. What I realized is that I literally would forgot what the school emails reminded me to do the very instant my mouse clicked on that cute X button.
My old friend, Procrastination, was hanging out and saying, “don’t take action now, you’ll come back to it later.” 😈
My enabler, Habit, said, “that’s how you’ve always done things, it’s no problemo, gal.” 🙃
My cheerleader, ADHD, said, “what’s that next email say? click on that!” 🤡
Here’s what I did:
I’ve learned how to structurally set up systems so I could get out of my own way. I did print outs, calendar invites, visualizations, reminders and more, letting me launch my kids and myself into each day prepared.
Good for me right? Have you also had these thoughts…
You’re a superwoman on the outside and therefore don’t need help.
Add a few band-aids such as, “if I learn a few hacks it’ll all come together” but really you’re inner child is saying, “if I get help then everyone will see how dumb I am and I’ll be judged” 😭
Here’s how I overcame this one:
Those be some real fears! But don’t despair, those are also LIES that were conditioned into you by some rude emotionally immature people. Let me tell you another secret about the progress that I made above… I GOT HELP! That’s right, I was NOT ALONE trying to prove I was tougher because I did it without help. I let go of my fears and ego and reached out.
OK, last self limiting thought I want to highlight…
I don’t have time or money to spend on myself to get coaching because I’m too stretched thin. ‘Nuff said…
Here’s the hard truth:
It’s so true that it always feels like there’s not enough time and money, because time literally is finite. Our time here alive IS limited (and that’s OK!), so why not spend it in a feeling a flow with the universe? Why not get to the root cause of the blockages in your life and work it out?
The money part, well, think about how many things that had to be bought last minute with an “ADHD tax.” On top of that when you invest in yourself, the money comes back to you. No joke!
For me, especially when I was learning how to juggle even more kid things, like taking action immediately when I saw something important school-related task was the hardest thing for me to overcome. But I did it.
And I know you can, too.
Whatever you’re feeling right now…
Wherever you’re at in your path to a calm and connected household…
I know you can overcome it all and get to where you want to go.
I hope I can be part of that journey to peace with you. It would be my honor.
